Severe weather — with possibility of tornadoes — headed for Capital Region - Albany Times Union

The National Weather Service is warning that the Capital Region should expect rough weather — including the possibility of tornadoes — Saturday afternoon and evening.

Meteorologist Brian Montgomery said the greatest tornado threat is for the early afternoon, ahead of a line of powerful and potentially damaging squalls expected to begin moving into the region at about 2 p.m. and lasting through the early evening.

The National Weather Service has not issued a tornado watch or warning, Montgomery said.

The squalls are expected to bring 60 to 80 mph winds and heavy rains. The weather service does not expect flooding, Montgomery said.

In parts of the region Sunday, temperatures are not expected to climb out of the 60s.

The squalls are the leading edge of a front that will usher away the warmer, more humid conditions or recent days.

"It will be a turn from a summer atmosphere to an early fall atmosphere," Montgomery said. "It will be a dramatic change."

In parts of the region Sunday, temperatures are not expected to climb out of the 60s.
